Retail Investors Buy the Dip as Royal Mint Reports Strong Demand for Digital Gold and Silver

7/30/2026 · Kitco News

Following a prolonged correction that sent precious metals into bear-market territory, retail investors are returning. The British Royal Mint reported steady gold and silver demand in the second quarter, with digital product sales rising 30% compared to the same period in 2025.

Digital gold increased 14% while digital silver jumped 162%. The value of physical silver bullion purchases rose 85% year-on-year. Current prices stand at $57.61 per ounce for silver, down 53% from January highs, and $4,039.20 for gold, down 28% from early-year peaks.

When gold fell below £3,000, the weight of purchases on the Mint’s website rose 29% above the quarterly average, liquidations dropped 29%, and investors bought five times more gold than they sold in a single day. Stuart O’Reilly noted that clients quickly resumed buying on price dips, viewing metals as a long-term allocation despite short-term pressure from the energy crisis.
